FAQ
Most people know about beer. But alcohol free beer? This is a good opportunity to get those questions out of the way. We want our customers to be knowledgeable about our products and feel good about their decision to choose a well-crafted beer, even if it it’s alcohol free.

Is there alcohol in your beer?
Yes, very low amounts. Our beers range between 0.2%-0.3%, but always below 0.5%, the universally accepted limit for alcohol free beverages. This is the same level of most kombuchas or fruit juices. Yes, even orange juice and bananas have low amounts of alcohol due to natural fermentation. Fun fact: Some breads have over 1% of alcohol!
How do you make it?
Pretty much like normal craft beer. While most alcohol free beers have a single, industrialised dealcoholisation step, our process is more similar to true craft beer production. Our process involves a series of 10+ changes to the brewing process, monitoring and controlling natural variables. We brew fully fermented beer to under 0.5% ABV. In this fashion, we retain the delicate esters and compounds of fermentation and let the ingredients fully express themselves.
What are your ingredients?
We use the same traditional ingredients used in regular beer. Barley, water, hops, and yeast. Most of our recipes use certified organic grains.
Will you be intoxicated if you drink too many?
Because each beer is less than 0.5% alcohol by volume, you’d need to drink 8 alcohol free beers in under 5 minutes to reach near the same alcohol level as 1 regular beer. Your body processes the small amount of alcohol so quickly that it’s nearly impossible to reach a considerable level of intoxication, even when drinking large volumes. Basically, you’ll get sick from drinking so much water before the small amount of alcohol matters much.
Is it safe to drink before or while driving?
Because of the very low levels of alcohol and the unlikelihood of an adult becoming intoxicated, drinking our beer before driving is safe, and even encouraged if you're a designated driver! We would recommend checking your local laws and regulations before drinking alcohol free beer while driving, and even if legal, you may still run the risk of being mistakenly pulled over.
Is Athletic Beer healthy for you?
Beer has many naturally healthy characteristics. Studies have shown beer has qualities desirable for athletes including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and our beers have been tested to have significant amounts of calcium, potassium, magnesium, fiber and other vitamins. Beer also has naturally re-hydrating electrolytes. Plus, our beers tend to be lighter in calories than even the lightest beers out there, and have very favourable carb counts. While we leave health recommendations to the doctors, we like to think of Athletic beer as a great lifestyle addition.
Can I drink it before or during exercise?
We encourage it! We make our beer so you can do exactly that. Because our beer is naturally hydrating and alcohol free, there’s no reason you can’t throw down a few before hitting the gym or even while running on the treadmill. But be prepared for some looks until people realise it’s an Athletic!
Is it safe to drink while pregnant or breastfeeding?
As there’s no safe level of alcohol intake during pregnancy or breastfeeding, abstinence from alcoholic and alcohol free beverages is always the safest approach. Although it’s unlikely that moderate intake of alcohol free beverages would pose any harm, we always advise expectant mothers to consult their physician before making decisions about their diet.
Can people under 18 drink it?
In most countries, beverages under 0.5% are considered alcohol free beverages and don't carry age restrictions. However, local laws and retailer policies vary, and to be safe we don’t market to minors as a company policy to discourage underage drinking.
Where can I find the Date Code?
The date code is stamped on the bottom of each can and on the end of the carton.
Our products are stamped with a Best Before Date: DD/MM/YY one year from production
For peak quality we recommend storing cold and enjoying chilled within 6 months from production.
Are any of your beers gluten free?
Upside Dawn is gluten free. Each batch is laboratory tested and confirmed to be below 20ppm.
